Escape from L.A.

Escape from L.A.
Escape from L.A. (1996)

IMDB rating: 5.10

Plot: Sequel to “Escape From New York”. In 2000, a huge earthquake hits Los Angeles which causes the whole city to be now situated on an island. In that year the new life-term US President, an out-spoken moralist declares that all people not conforming to the high morals he sets for the country will be deported to the Los Angeles island. Like New York, a wall is built, guards posted to stop any escapes and if sent there – you can’t return to the US. In 2013, Cuervo Jones, a terrorist invades the dreams of the President’s daughter, Utopia, and brainwashes her into stealing a device from a weapons establishment and runs with Cuervo to the island. Snake Plissken, hero of Escape From New York, is forced again to go to the island to get the device by the President (who doesn’t care if Utopia returns or not.) and he is poisoned to ensure his co-operation. Like New York, Los Angeles is now a decaying city, a hot-bed of scum and weirdos and Snake has 9 hours to find the device and Utopia, and get out before the poison kicks in.

What is a better car to get?
im looking at replacing my current car with a newer less mileage american car preferably Ford
i have a 1994 pontiac grand am se coupe v6 automatic with a lot of problems all pretty much minor at the moment but cost a lot to fix
the cars im thinkin of gettin are:
Ford Explorer
Ford Escape
Ford Fusion
Ford Five Hundred
Ford Taurus
Ford Ranger
Ford F-150
GMC Yukon
GMC Sonoma
Chevrolet S10
Chevrolet Tahoe
Mercury Grand Marquis
Ford Crown Victoria
Mercury Mountaineer
Lincoln LS
Lincoln Continental
Dodge Dakota
Dodge Ram 1500

so which would you get and why?
thanks in advance

Both the ford fusion and the five hundred are good. The fusion has a little more power and is fun to drive. The five hundred is a big car, it has lots of room and the largest trunk of any sedan. It was also the safest sedan from 2005 to 2007

| Oct 18, 2009

ive heard a lot of good things about the ford fusion

Ford Escape. It is a nice little suv, with good gas mileage.

Ford 500. Most bang for the buck.
legendofslipperyhollow | Oct 18, 2009

By far the best car on the list is the Ford Crown Victoria. It is hands down the best car. Ford has been building the same Crown Victoria on the same chassis with the same engine for 20 years. It is highly unlikely a Crown Vic would suffer from a manufacturing hiccup. In the last 20 years Crown Vics have traveled millions of miles throughout the country as police cars, taxis and chauffeur limousines. The Lincoln Continental comes closest for a few of the same reasons the Crown Vic has been the master of the urban universe. What other car on your list has been in a more abusive career in public transportation? After their service life, they are driven as undercover vehicles, used in cop shows and movies. The Crown Vic.

However, I would not buy a Vic, it is not my style. I like the Lincoln LS for my money.

Best.
mark_hensley@sbcglobal.net | Oct 18, 2009

First let’s narrow down the vehicle types. Truck only if you intend to haul frequent loads that can be exposed to the elements.

SUVs if you need to haul people and large objects frequently in addition to the need to go off-road.

A sedan is going to give you the best all-around usage without a mileage penalty. Then decide if you want a large one or a mid-size. Rear-wheel drive or front-wheel drive.

The Taurus is the new 500. The Crown Vic and Grand Marquis are ancient, oversized platforms suited for rental, taxi or police use.

My personal choice from your list would be the Lincoln LS or other Lincoln luxury sedan. Good platforms, decent performance and utility and luxury which is always nice.

Scrap The European Freedom of Movement Act

NHS

Build one new Super hospital with every specialised facility in every town to reduce the Postcode lottery.
Invest more money in medical research in Cancer,Mental illness.
Train more doctors and nurses from Britain

Local Government
————————
Kill the idea of Central Government returning all power back to individual councils and boroughs.
Hold referendums on local issues
Have the right to sack your local MP
Bin collections once a week not once a fortnight!
Scrap Speed Cameras
British citizens will be given first priority over council houses

Government
—————-
Re-from parliament
Scrap expenses and build a Members of parliament barracks so they will have no need for a second home.
No second jobs for MP’s
Mp’s will have to take a oath to promise to serve the country and the people and not for their own benefit,if they are found to violate this they will be removed and banned from ever running for parliament again.
Scrap Quangos that cost ?60 billion a year
Scrap bureaucracy and unnecessary laws and legislation for example multicultural groups, political correctness.
Scrap the Extradition agreement of british citizens to the U.S
Bring back the Treason laws that Tony Blair scrapped so our countries sovereignty will never under threat again.

no minority or religion will be given special privilege or special treatment.

Immigration
——————
Close the borders for 5 years
Deport every illegal immigrant
Deport every single immigrant who has commited a crime we don’t want them in our society.
Only keep people with valuable skills
Ensure that the British way of life is enforced
No special treatment for immigrants British citizens come first!
make sure that every person speaks english

Thats all i think!
What do you think?
Micheal M – The american bill of rights is based on the English Bill of Rights of 1689. How can you not know that!?! Whole sentences are lifted from it! John Adams himself said that the british constituation was ‘the most stupendous fabric of human invention in history’ – which is why they? based the US constitution on it. The US constitution is merely a combination of half a dozen parts of the english constitution into a single concise document that every man could understand and have access to. Okay dear?
I would pay for all of this by leaving the E.U our memberships costs ?645billion a year thats almost ?260 per household also by leaving the E.U the restrictions on our trade would be lifted so we can trade with whoever we like when it suits us thus increasing our GDP by almost 10%.

Great ideas. Yeah if I were British, I’d vote for you even though I’m not a fan of a big military. I do like that you make fair compensation and first rate health care a top priority for the brave men and women who serve. I particularly like your plans to get out of the EU, re-empower local governments and repeal laws that undermine personal freedom.

Zee-ster | Aug 29, 2009

How bout running for president in America. No need for a birth certificate here. Seriously good ideas though. I am coming to Britain just to vote you in. :)
Big E | Aug 27, 2009

Yes, I would vote for you!! We need those ideas put into practice.
John | Aug 27, 2009

No…because you have shown yourself not to have any milk of human kindness in you….a fundamental prerequisite to humanity, interest in people and basic social welfare for the majority
agreeable | Aug 27, 2009

no.

‘Ensure that the British way of life is enforced’ explain what this is, as a white English person i do not want the Gov enforcing a certian lifestyle on me sounds like you want to be a dictator… I love curry if you even try and stop me eating it i will personally deport you.
??0???I?? | Aug 27, 2009

Raising the money the military gets to one hundred billion pounds??? I don’t think so…
tkmonster | Aug 27, 2009

Hey Brits – why not get a Constitution with a Bill of RIghts?
Michael M | Aug 27, 2009

Yup I sure would..did you know that figures released today show that the population of the UK has passed the 61 million mark. we do not have the means to support this ever increasing rise in population
Facile Princeps | Aug 27, 2009

Yes, I would, provided you restore our proper place as the leader of the commonwealth.
Friendly Neighbourhood Atheist | Aug 27, 2009

You will get my vote! I agree with everything you say there! Some of your polices sound like the BNP though!
Britannia Guy | Aug 27, 2009

Yes
Afonso | Aug 27, 2009

Er no – but you’ve put a lot of effort into that.
Lorne | Aug 27, 2009

I have issues with a lot of it.

- Public spending would have to increase to fund many of the policies; the suggested savings are relative nibbles & often not practical (quangos often perform state roles on the cheap…)

- More public health workers assumes the education system is currently turning out enough graduates both able and willing to work in the NHS.

- Be careful with the military budget, such specific aims are probably not wise until you’ve considered what your political aims for such a substantial force.

- Social policy is a confused mix of moves to the authoritarian (enforcing social behaviour & making forms of protest illegal) with liberal additions such as extending freedom of speech.

- Ditto govt. structure – how do you reconcile the centralisation of govt. with local plebiscites?

- Not sure about cloing the borders, this would result in an equal international response, something of an issue for UK citizens working abroad…

- Such an aggressive stance on Europe would be harmful. The Union may well decide that if we don’t want the bathwater we can’t have the baby – they can hurt us.

- No review of welfare? It is the single bigegst consumer of tax yield.

So probably not.
DesB3rd | Aug 27, 2009

And to do all this, how much will you raise taxes? This is impossible to fund, even more so now than it would have been before the recession.

You forgot to arrange to train the extra doctors and nurses for your new hospitals. No rush on building the hospitals, as the staff will take several years to train.

By changing MPs conditions for the worse (what grown adult wants to live in a barracks?), you will reduce the numbers who want to do the job. Be sure the only people left who will want to are power-hungry maniacs who have no lives, and hence no skeletons in the cupboard.
tiggsy | Aug 27, 2009

You have my vote were do i put my cross, Pity it will never happen the PC.s brigade has a strangle hold on this country and will not relinquish it easily backed up by vested interest and benefit idle layabouts who have never worked and have no intention ever of doing so.

Andy D | Aug 28, 2009

You have got my vote;
robert c | Aug 28, 2009

Yeah, i think you have great ideas. I would certainly vote for you and think if you were PM you could do the country a lot of good. But seriously though, lots of people could run the country better than the idiots that are running it now. Some great policies on your list though (Y)
Giggles. | Aug 28, 2009

No!
LEX ? | Aug 28, 2009

How would all your policies be funded? Would you increase Taxes?

I would vote for you just on your policies of: Government, Freedom of speech and immigration. Although on immigration, I think all illegals should be put on trains and sent for relocation – ha ha.
politicsbolitics | Aug 29, 2009

I would vote for you (assuming you had a chance of winning).

Remember – we vote for MPs, not the PM. To win, you need a party behind you. Time to get organising!
General Election NOW! | Aug 30, 2009

Enforce a British way of life? Sounds almost like BNP. Don’t agree with the armed forces 100 billion. Do agree with getting rid of quangos. Oh and you’d never catch ALL the immigrants, they’re too good at getting in.

Plot: For the past 20 years, Frank Harrington has grudgingly driven his family to celebrate Christmas with his mother-in-law. This year, he takes a shortcut. It’s the biggest mistake of his life: The nightmare begins. A mysterious woman in white wanders through the forest, leaving death in her wake. A terrifying black car – its driver invisible – carries the victims into the heart of the night. Every road sign points to a destination they never reach. Chapter One…

Times have changed so much lately it scares me sometimes. There are so many different types of technology now! It is because of these advances that the world is about to end in precisely 743 minutes to be exact.

The countdown rang through the now deserted corridors leading up to the rocket launchers. The once packed halls now lay silent and abandoned. Just like every other building on planet earth. Not a single soul was left on earth.

The alarm sounded down every vent, corridor, passage way, and tunnel leading into the city. But there was no one left to hear it. It would just carry on ringing until the countdown stopped. There was no one to turn it off, no one to hear it, and there wouldn

do these stores participate in black friday ONLINE?

i’ve been trying to see if these stores, in particular, participate in black friday ONLINE.
i live in a small town, so i don’t really want to wake up extra early to get to some place or even get lost on the way there and then wait in line for hours.
so this year, i decided to do shopping online only.
yes, i’ve even searched here for similar questions but i found none to be satisfying so far…
the stores that i seek are mainly:

Forever21
Charlotte Russe
Victoria’s Secret
Best Buy <- i think they’re doing black friday online, but not sure??

around those types of stores, but those 4 mainly.
now i know that Forever21 does not do black friday in the actual store, but i was wondering about sales that can be going on, especially ONLINE :)
as for Charlotte Russe, they do black friday in the store (i think), but do they do it online too??
same goes for VS.
if you can suggest any other stores that have clothes or things much like these 4, please do so especially if they have black friday online :)

oh and about Black Friday ad scans, so the stores/sites listed have black friday sales online for sure riiight? :o

and i heard something about cyber monday following black friday.
is it better? is it more towards electronics?

please tell me what you think…

*please don’t give an answer that says to just "google it"

thank you very much!
happy thanksgiving!

I think your best bet is cyber monday. It really isn’t black friday when you don’t get up at 1am in the morning and head to the store.

instead of cooking a turkey at 350 for 4 hours ….can i cook it at 125 for 8 hours and still have it be cooked safe? …like will the internal temperature reach the proper level?

if you want to test that out then use a thermoment with a probe that goes inside. it never hurts to explore. But it well hurt if it is not cooked right. Remeber the bacteria, parasistes, and viruse that can happen. For yours and ur familys safety please check.

This is a stichic……c/c?
Stichic is prose that follows certain rules…

It’s daylight hour,
yet dragon’s mist
sits still upon
the fields of wheat.
Do flowers bloom
in winter’s breath,
or fallow lie,
as unborn seed.
sparrows sitting
in the trees.
A warmer breeze
sighs in relief.
A memory of
summer forms
Upon a stream
still thinly iced.
Hope grows under
scattered leaves.

Meet the RobinsonsMeet the Robinsons (2007)

IMDB rating: 6.80

Plot: Meet the Robinsons is filled with extraordinarily inappropriate and insensitive messages about adoption that will be disturbing to many children. The basic story is about an adorable baby whose birthmother leaves him on the doorstep of an orphanage. Portrayed as loving, sweet, extremely smart and overly appealing, he spends the next 12 years of his life wanting a family and being turned down by one family after another – in all, 114 couples refuse to adopt him. One disturbing scene shows a prospective dad losing interest in adopting the child because the youngster is more interested in science than sports. When he accidentally splatters them with food from his science project, both prospective parents walk out in a huff , leaving one very sad and disappointed little boy. Since no one else wants him, the child invents a time machine that will take him back in time to find his birth mother. The “bad guy” in his time travel journey turns out to be his best childhood buddy who was once his orphanage roommate. Now an emotional wreck resulting from being left behind when the orphanage was closed and shut down, the once-cute orphan is now mean and devious. The story continues with numerous monsters attacking the child as he continues to search for his birth mother.
