&Ldquo;The Lord of the Rings” trilogy has seen many incarnations over the years. J.R.R. Tolkien’s books — “The Fellowship of the Ring,” “The Two Towers” and “The Return of the King” — still stand as classics in literature. Visionary film director Peter Jackson helmed beloved cinematic adaptations a few years ago. And Toronto and London audiences recently had the chance to see a musical stage version of “Rings” that was short-lived, but gargantuan in its scope.

Now, Howard Shore, the composer of the score for each film, and Maestro Ludwig Wicki of Lucerne, Switzerland, have helped usher in a new dimension to the “Rings” universe: accompanying a showing of “Fellowship” on a large screen with a live orchestra performing the film’s score.

Locals will have the chance to see the work of Wicki, the 21st Century Orchestra, the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, The Collegiate Chorale and soprano Kaitlyn Lusk when they perform at Radio City Music Hall Oct. 9 and 10.

Recently, Wicki spoke with The Leader from his hometown of Lucerne on what has become a project of love and devotion for the conductor.

“So many people are very excited,” he said of the 21st Century Orchestra’s enthusiasm to perform in New York City. “I am completely excited.”

Wicki said he became attached to the project in late 2007, after the orchestra he conducts performed a concert of Shore’s best-known film scores. From that original spark, the fire has been burning for Wicki ever since. In March 2008, the performance piece had its world premiere, and now it will play the historic Radio City Music Hall.

The thrill of conducting the sweeping music in one of the world’s most famous venues is not lost on Wicki.

“It’s like a gift from heaven, like a miracle,” he said. “It opened us really big doors.”

In some ways, Wicki has been working his entire life for a chance like this. Raised in a musical family, Wicki gravitated toward folk and church choir music at a young age. Concurrently, he grew fascinated with Ennio Morricone, the composer of several classic film scores, including “The Untouchables,” “Bugsy” and his several collaborations with spaghetti-western director Sergio Leone. At one point, Wicki even dreamed of growing up and playing in Morricone’s orchestra. “When I was 15, I wrote whole Morricone pieces to play with my group,” he said.

From those early aspirations, Wicki became a member of the Lucerne Symphony and Opera Orchestra and founded a brass quintet. While his professional life progressed, he eventually fell in love with Gregorian choral music and became a permanent member of the Scholas Romanum Luzernsis.

It was at this point that Wicki began focusing on conducting opportunities — everything from Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn and Bruckner.

“I live in Lucerne,” he said. “I never thought to go out from my home, to be a conductor.”

But life for Wicki had a different plan. Although he still calls Switzerland home, he enjoys the difficult but rewarding life of playing in concert halls and various venues throughout the world.

But Lucerne is his first geographical love. “You can work with the best people here,” he said. “You have a really good chance to realize the most fantastic projects. … I will never leave.”

For the Radio City show, Wicki will conduct an orchestra consisting of 75 musicians (slightly trimmed from 85). When the maestro spoke with The Leader, he was prepping for another grueling day of rehearsals.

“Yesterday, I had six hours of rehearsal, no almost nine hours,” he said with a laugh. “At the end of the day, I was really, really tired. It’s really hard work. The rehearsals almost need more energy than the performance.”

The crowds for the performance of Shore’s score have been varied, Wicki said.

There are the film’s fans, who show up dressed in full “Rings” regalia, while other attendees are older fans of the book. Still others are lovers of classical music, while others go in expecting one thing and leave with a respect for the work of an orchestra.

“It’s a very good connection to bring new people to the concert hall,” said Wicki, adding that by having an accompanying orchestra, the music of the film comes into its own and takes on a new character. “In the movie version, a lot of the music is cut down. Here the music is always there.”

So confused. Who should I believe?
Well my ex-friend told me that some guy who likes me said to her he wanted to ‘bang’ me but when I was walking with him he said that if my ex-friend says that I shouldn’t believe her so I don’t know who to believe.

I don’t know who to believe because my ex-friend has lied to and about me a LOT and seems to have been trying to ruin my life. Also, after she found out that that guy liked me she’s been trying to get him to stop liking me by telling him lies about me (I know because he told me and was asking questions about it) and after she thought that I liked him she started telling me bad things about him(And btw she told him she’d tell me certain things about him the same way she said to me). I didn’t believe any of the things she’s told me about him though because she’s lied to me about so many things. And like the story "The Boy Who Cried Wolf", if you keep lying people will eventually stop believing you even when it is true. But maybe this time she’s telling the truth because she said that she tackled him after he said that (I don’t belive that part) and if I ask some people they would tell me the truth and she seemed pretty sure about what she was saying. She also had one of her other friends who was one of my other ex-friends only because she stuck with her after I left to tell me that he said that he said he wanted to ‘bang’ me.

But I’m also not too sure about believing the guy who likes me because I’ve heard from a lot of people from school that he said we were ‘together’ when people asked him even though we weren’t. (People only thought we were together at first because he was holding my hand for a while.) And he didn’t want me to know that he said that and I’m pretty sure of it. But I kind of believe him more than my ex-friends because he hasn’t really lied to my face about anything, just kind of didn’t let me know about it… But even if that was counted as lying then he only lied to me once but my ex-friend lied to me straight in my face about many things. Even things that she has no reason to hide from me. Plus I wouldn’t ever want to lie to anyone I liked a lot. Also, I don’t see why he’d lie to me about

Oh and if it helps I’ll tell you a little about my ex-friend and the guy that likes me. My ex-friend’s mom has actually said that my ex-friend lies a lot and my ex-friend lied about me many times so she wouldn’t get in trouble. Oh and she also HATES the guy that likes me… I don’t know why.

The guy that likes me is known by most of my school. He’s a bit perverted but kind of in a joking way with his friends. Most girls (and some guys) think he’s creepy or weird. He also dislikes my ex-friend.

I dont know if I can give a lot of advice, but here is what I think. First off, maybe she infact likes that guy and wants things to be ruined so she made it up. Or maybe she did hear him and wanted to let you know. either way, if she is your EX friend, should you care what she has to say? If she has started trouble before maybe she is now. If you can’t believe her and she’s proven it, then dont. UNLESS she seems as if she is really trying to help you. You know her better, so does she? Is she trying to be your friend again?

Also, maybe he DID say it. Guys speak like that around their guy friends because they feel like it’s what they are suppose to say. But he can’t tell you he said it because you would think he was a "perv". And he can’t tell you he only said it because of his friends because that would wound his pride and ego and feel silly around you.

I can’t tell you who to believe, but those are some things to think about.

I need some help with dieting…?
I am trying to lose weight, a constant battle for me. During the month of September/October I did low impact aerobics at night before I went to bed. No weight loss. So I joined a new gym (inexpensive) so that I could got during my lunch hour. For the entire month of November, I went every day during my lunch hour and walked the tread mill, rode the bike or did the ski machine for at least 30 to 45 minutes a day. The gym lady told me to drink water. So I drank water. I drank so much water that I stayed in and out of the restroom, and my boss got very angry at me, because I am a receptionist. And through all of that, I still have not lost a pound actually gained a few… So now I am back to doing nothing. I cannot afford Curves, or the YMCA. I have very littley money but I do want to lost weight, so Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, etc is out of the questions, because I can’t afford them. Any help, I am so depressed!

Hold down the power and home keys down for about 10 seconds each while plugged into itunes. When the screen goes black, release the power button but keep holding the home key until itunes says. We have detected an itouch in recovery mode.

What is the significance of the book of Esther in the Bible, and us today?
Esther chapter 3

There are two main people in this chapter of the book of Esther, Mordicai and Haman. Mordicai was Queen Esther’s cousin and also the gate keeper of King Ahasuerus; Mordicai was a Jew. Haman was an official whom the king had appointed to be over all of the other princes in the Medo-Persian kingdom.

Because of Haman’s status, everyone had to bow down to him when he came around. And everyone DID, except for Mordicai. Mordicai would bow to no one except God, and this really pushed Haman’s buttons. Haman was so angry about the fact that Mordicai would not bow down to him, that he had a great hatred for Mordicai AND his people, the Jews.

So… verse.8 "And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from all people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it is not for the king’s profit to suffer them." Haman basically proposed to the king that all of the Jews in the land should be slaughtered. The king gave his ring for a seal of approval, and the date was set for the Jews to be executed in their homes because of their beliefs AND because Mordicai would not bow to Haman.

I think this story is significant because in the last days of this earth’s history, laws will be changed. And there will be no more religious freedom, whether you are a Christian, Jew, Athiest, Muslim, Harikrishna, or you name it. Everyone will be forced to worship on Sunday on pain of prison and death. But there will be people from every denomination and religion and belief, coming together on one issue: the seventh day Sabbath. There will be no punishment great enough to keep them from this belief, because they will all have been convicted by the Holy Spirit that this is the true day of God’s worship. And for this, many will perish for a time.

It is often said that HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF. Many people do not even want to be bothered with the idea of the Bible, or Christianity period. But very soon, this won’t matter anymore. We will all have to choose a side. I encourage everyone to read the Bible with an open mind, there is a reason why it has survived all this time.
