Cheeky Angel/Tenshi Na Konamaiki side story (Sunday Shonen Jan 2004)?
OK, I’m a big fan of the manga series Cheeky Angel or Tenshi Na Konamaiki, and I just recently found out that there was a small side story that took place 6 months after the end of the series that was released on this issue, but VIZ didn’t release at all in their translation. Does by any chance someone have this issue and could at least give me a summary of what happened? I would really appreciate it.
So far this:

is the only thing I’ve been able to find.

How the hell did actor William Hurt get out of prison after killing Matty Walker's husband Edmund Walker?
In 1981 movie "Body Heat", William Hurt met Matty Walker(Kathleen Turner), had sex with her, killed Edmund Walker(Richard Creena) for her, got caught, and went to jail at the end of the movie while (Matty Walker)Kathleen Turner escaped to an exotic island where she was rich, YET, in the 2008 movie "The Incredible Hulk", he’s out of prison, he’s an army general in his 50s or 60s, he’s got a daughter, and is hunting down Edward Norton who kept turning into the "Incredible Hulk". How did he get out of jail to make the 2008 movie "The Incredible Hulk" 27 years later? HOW?
Did his best friend (Lowestein)Ted Danson from 1981 BodyHeat decide to help out his best friend and come up with a strong enough defense years later on to make his release possible? And even if he did this, how did he possible get that job as a general? Was he granted a full pardon and equal opportunity for anything after Lowestein got him out?

Yea, I think it was something like that. Better watch it again.

Steve Newman’s world in miniature
02.10.09
The big-screen cinematic adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s beloved children’s book “Where the Wild Things Are” bears the unmistakable stamp of its director Spike Jonze, but Steve Newman played an integral role in helping the hipster auteur realize his creative vision .

The Australian Cinematographers Society member was tasked with filming the miniatures created for the movie — specifically, a detailed cityscape constructed on a tabletop that depicted one character’s idealized vision of an alternate land where he lived with his fellow furry “wild things.” It was also up to Newman to figure out a way to share that world with the audience from the point of view of one imaginative boy, played by young actor Max Records.

“It’s a miniature city, but instead of roads, it has canals running between the buildings, which look like snow-capped mountains,” Newman says. “In the canals are little, tiny boats with little, tiny figures, which are the characters made in miniature. There’s a table with the big model on it, and Max sticks his head up through [a hole in the middle of] the table and looks, and we see what he sees.”

Born in England and raised mostly in Australia, Newman’s fascination with photographing interesting objects began early — he used to take pictures of airplanes as a boy with a Box Brownie camera. After high school, he continued his large-scale pursuits, studying architecture for seven years. But he found himself incorporating so much film into his design projects that he decided to apply to the Australian Film, Television and Radio School in Sydney.

For his first miniatures job, he filmed the most massive creatures ever to walk the Earth — dinosaurs — in a stop-motion animation sequence for a documentary. He subsequently worked as miniatures director of photography for films including 2004’s “Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid,” 2005’s “House of Wax” and 2006’s ” Superman Returns.”

“The thing that’s interesting about the job is that it’s always full of incredibly complex challenges and problem solving,” he says. “I just love cinematography, but I’m interested in visual effects because I find it a greater challenge.”

Thinking small: “Usually on films, I’m shooting miniatures that are supposed to look like the full-sized things,” he says. “This particular job was quite different because the miniatures in the film are actually supposed to be small. All the miniatures are a model built by Carol, one of the main characters. It was great to see Spike Jonze sit down with the model makers at a table full of Plasticine and actually start making some of the tiny figures himself.”

Size matters: “The problem is, when you film something very small, you don’t have a lot of depth of focus,” explains Newman, who is currently working as studio director of photography on the long-running Australian soap opera “Neighbours.” “So to get enough depth of focus, you have to light up to an incredibly high level. Producers often think, ‘Oh, miniatures. That’ll be a small unit.’ But in fact, the miniature unit has a larger lighting component often than the main unit does. You need bigger lights and more of them.”

On the waterfront: Sometimes, Jonze’s dictates placed unusual demands on Newman and his team. “Because the boy is putting his head up through a hole in the table, his eye height is very, very low,” says Newman. “So Spike wanted the camera to be virtually at water level in these canals, and the whole miniature was built on a table that only had about 4 or 5 inches of water in it. So we hung the camera on a crane and used the snorkel lens. This is a bit like a periscope, but it’s like an upside-down periscope. Instead of going up with it, we were going down into the water with it.

“The snorkel lens comes with its own waterproof housing, but the housing was so big that it stopped us getting the lens down into the water. So I got the model makers to make up a little splash box that we could put the lens into so that we could lower the lens right down to the water level.”

When worlds collide: Charged with giving each locale a unique feel, Newman often found himself trying to visually distinguish one fantastic setting from another.

“The table with the model on it was inside a cave, but we wanted to try to separate the cave backgrounds a little bit from the actual miniature city,” he says. “We used a very large, 20-foot-by-40-foot-wide net. [It was] a bit like stocking material, a white gauze, so that we could diffuse the background and make it feel like it was slightly removed from the world of the miniatures. It makes the things outside the miniature world have less contrast.

“The challenge was creating a world within a world, because the world of the film is a fantasy world anyway. But this is another little fantasy inside that fantasy.”

Igby Goes Down
Igby Goes Down (2002)

IMDB rating: 7.10

Plot: Igby Slocumb, a rebellious and sarcastic seventeen year-old boy, is at war with the oppressive world of his East Coast “old money” family. With a schizophrenic father, a self-absorbed, distant mother, and a shark-like young Republican big brother, Igby figures there must be a better life out there, and he sets out to find it. After happily flunking out of several Prep Schools, Igby escapes into the bohemian underworld of Manhattan. His darkly comic trip—shared by a deviant cast of characters, including his terminally bored, part-time lover Sookie, his Godfather’s trophy mistress Rachel, and smack-dealing performance artists Russel—veers from bizarre to tragic in Igby’s ultimately noble attempt to keep himself from “going down.”

For all teenagers. what do you think of my writing?
Chapter one.

The woman scurried down the street, pressing her bleeding left knee with her slender hand and stealing quick looks behind her. She knew he was following her. The lampposts at her side offered no guidance; they all stood silently, their heads fogged with dust as if they existed in a place forgotten by time.

She gasped louder as she pulled her wounded leg behind her, unable to bear it anymore. The pain surged through her lower body and blurred her eyes. She wished for a voice to offer her a temporary refuge in the ever-increasing coldness of the night, but the buildings that surrounded her were all stark and dim as the trees facing them.

After sometime, she glimpsed the light of a far store she quickened her pace towards it. Footsteps emerged behind her. Afraid to turn her eyes from the store, she struggled faster down the street, convincing herself that it was just the sound of her high heels over the asphalt; it was just an illusion.

After falling to her knees in front of the store, she called out.

General advice? be wary; I go off on many tangents and never return?
This isn’t short, not by a longshot…so please, if you don’t want to read & attempt to answer my rambles constructively, move on to another question. I’m asking multiple (oh so many) questions here – not just one – so feel free to answer parts of it (again, constructively please) as you are able. I tend to go on tangents, and sometimes I never return from them. I give a lot of seemingly useless background information. I’m horrible at summarizing. Please be patient with me. :P

I attend a commuter college, and live in an apartment by myself. Being that it is a commuter college, people seem to be more off in their own worlds than people at a college with a dorm would be. To be fair, a part of this is that many of these people are working jobs and have families… so the idea of hanging out is less on their minds.
I don’t really talk to anyone from school outside of class. Being that I don’t live in a dorm, I don’t naturally meet people from school. It doesn’t help that I tend to be an introvert as well, though I am getting better.
I’m taking about 17 credits worth of classes this semester, so I will be pretty busy with schoolwork. I’m hesitant to commit to any groups because I know that I just can’t make a lot of them. I have a few night classes, and I tend to go home on weekends.
To be honest with myself, the main reason I go home is to spend time with a girl. To give some background: We are *not* dating. I met her early this summer at a graduation party, and we’ve spent time in mostly group settings since then. I wrote her letters (and still do weekly ones) while she was away at a camp. Nothing super personal or flirty, just summaries of what I did that day & what I thought of this or that. She and her parents don’t feel like now is a good time in her life for dating. She feels like most people at this age date people in short amounts of time, moving from person to person… not looking for something that will last. Anyway, I told her about a month and a half ago now that I want to wait until she is ready for a relationship. That meant a lot to her because her last boyfriend (well, she had dated one guy (and had many crushes since) but the last was for a week) had cheated on her… and many guys that had liked her just didn’t think she was worth waiting for, so they would move on to another girl when they found out that she wasn’t allowed to date.
She has reciprocated a few times since then (saying she too wants to wait), but still I am very "pessimistic" about it all. The idea of dating & whatever this is (some sort of exclusive friendship?) always seemed a pipe dream, too far off in the future to consider for the present. She is a senior in HS now, and I am in my 2nd year at college. Likely she will be at a college that is 4hours away, as it is looking now. I’m very much so in the mindset that I will end up to be just a friend & that she will meet someone at college. I’ve been pretty open about how I feel about all of this, and after I told her about the college aspect and my thoughts, she replied that she doesn’t want to meet her husband at college, she really doesn’t, but was realistic in saying, "who knows what the future has in store for me".
She’s been a HUGE positive influence to me. I don’t want to let her down… So I’m putting a lot more of myself into school, I’m running again (and doing some calisthenics (pushups)), and just trying to live a less sedentary/lazy life. I’m even considering trying to pick up German again. I only took a year of it my freshman yr of HS. She’s in her 3rd or 4th year of it now, but I figure that if I apply myself, I could catch up pretty quickly if I want to. Probably my pronunciation will be lacking, even with the German instructional cds from the library. I also borrowed Pride and Prejudice from the library. I know that she has to read it for school, and having seen "The Jane Austen Book Club" (movie, 2007), I’m a little interested in reading the book.
I admit that I am being a "people pleaser" (person, rather) here. BUT, I don’t see it as a bad thing necessarily. I’m trying to be more organized, more of an extrovert… Pretty much all of the things I am doing now since I’ve met her are GOOD things.
My only concern is what will happen if things "end badly" with her. I put it in quotes because we are friends in name, though we write letters, spend time on weekends, hug each other goodbye, and are both wanting this to work out (she repeated wanting it to work out between us again to me just two weekends ago) and wanting to wait.
I tend to get discouraged, and not see the immediate point in every day things. I’m not trying to be sweet or sentimental here, but honestly, she is truly my drive. My motivation. I know it’s unhealthy in a way, and I honestly don’t know what to do. I don’t want to take a "step back" from this, because I want to be available and I want this to work out…… I just wonder if there’s any way to continue to get the good out of th
Part2: to get the good out of this "friendship" with the girl without putting all of my stock into it. I know that I’ll be destroyed if things don’t work out. I don’t mean suicide, though. I just would find it hard to do the every day things, once again. Where else can I get motivation?
I realize that I may be shooting myself in the foot here, in listing advice that someone else has already giving me since one of you may repeat it, but I will go on anyway: A friend told me that I should be myself, and not go out of my way to spend time with her. If things are meant to work out, they will work out.
I am religious, and I do believe in God, but I’m a little unsure about the idea of things just falling into place neatly. Admittedly, I do regularly have trouble trusting God with my future. To be honest with my self, I just don’t want to take a step back and possibly lose her because she may think that I’m not interested.
Part 3: About things "falling into place neatly", it reminds me that she and I met on her birthday, which happened to be the same day as the grad party. I do try hard not to let it get to my head, but it’s just like… what are the chances? She is an amazing girl with strong moral values, loves God… I suppose if I am to be optimistic, I can say that there is some merit to things falling into place. I didn’t even plan on letting her know that I liked her. I started to like her for her energy/emotion during an Apples to Apples game, then being the naive guy I am, told my sister afterwards that I think she is "kind of cute". My sister ends up telling me not much later that she said the same thing about me to her (the girl I’m interested in) cousin. So straight off before we even knew each other (other than by name), we knew that the other was interested. This is also a bad thing because there is no real ground of friendship to build off of. I mean we’re not super flirty or anything, but
Part 4: but just in knowing that the other is interested, the conversations tend to be so much more personal.
I do know that she is interested. She’s asked me about what I think fun date ideas would be, for example. I do still fall into the mindset that this is too good to last, however. I feel like she will change somehow, or that she will need someone more local while at college. I brought up the more local thing to her even, and that’s where the not wanting to meet the hubby at college thing came in as well. I’m trying to take things very slow and define lines of what should and shouldn’t be done as friends. (Emotional purity). We hug eachother farewell, but we don’t kiss or hold hands… and rightfully so. I even felt a little bad two weekends ago when her sister, her boyfriend, her and I sat on the same couch (very close) and watched a movie. Towards the end of the movie, she laid her head on my shoulder.
Part 5: I really did enjoy it, but I feel like as friends, things like this need to be saved for dating. I don’t even want to kiss until way later on in a relationship. Preferably when engaged, or even when at the marriage ceremony…… She’s been emotionally scarred by her boyfriend that cheated on her, and I want to avoid that for her sake and mine. I don’t think it’s fair to do it, since if she and I don’t end up together and if we had kissed, she will compare my kiss to the kiss of her hubby. And that’s wrong… I mean it’s sort of "natural" to compare what you know to the present, but still, it’s not what should be done. So I think her parents probably know how I am & what I think of kissing/dating/etc to a degree because they seem to approve. They even invited me to a family (relatives as well) Labor Day brunch.
Part 6: Admittedly, I told the girl I am interested in that I wanted to spend time with her before I had to go back to school, so maybe this was the only time that it would have worked out… nothing more intentionally personal than that.

So, a lot of rambling, I know. Another thing I want to touch more on again: How can I improve my social aspect? I see friends at home on the weekends, but besides that I really don’t spend time with people here during the school week. I mean there’s honestly ONE friend from a Christian group, and he’s a genuine guy, but weekends work out for him far as spending time goes — and again, I like to go home on the weekends. I suppose I could still spend time with him on a Friday since I and the girl I like try to get homework done early in the weekend so that we have time to spend later on in the weekend.

If for any reason more clarification (must think I’m a joker) is needed, ask, and I will provide.
+1 to the hypno for reading. :p

Wow. I think you know the answer more than you think. Whatever advice a friend gave you sounds true. Also what your GF-ish said about who knows what the future will bring, is another thing to consider. And you two will be living far when she attends this other college? It might be tough.

I don’t want to give you the wrong advice here, but I think going with your gut might be the best thing. You have a good head on your shoulders.

Good luck

Do you open your door before you know who's knocking?
I always have.
Now, in our small town with virtually no crime, some young man is approaching older folks demanding money, by simply knocking on their door.
He has shown a knife to one man.
The R.C.M.P. have moved in from several other detachments; and that’s good.
But, it is scary. Be careful.
Folks, I live in a town with less than 2000 people and most of us know almost everyone.

I have done the same thing countless times–we sometimes for get that small towns have crimes and many of them violent. a few yrs back I remember reading in the paper where thieves came in the back door of a home and carted out what they wanted while the owners were on the front porch.
Yrs back a young man appeared at our front door barely knocking with his cut throat—-I insisted he set down right where he was half in my living room and the enclosed front porch—afraid he would keel over and that would be it.

Ice 'em | Dec 22, 2009

Heck no. Always check the peephole first, and if I feel unsure, ask the person through the door. I live in a college town, don’t want to take chances with the drunk students everywhere.
Liser | Dec 22, 2009

No, I’ve always been one to look out the window or through my peep-hole. I grew up in a small town, but my family has roots in big cities, so we always kept our house locked and were pretty cautious.
Purdey EP | Dec 22, 2009

Yes.
But I have a steel security screen door and a 110 lb.Dog.
Spike ( the wonder dog ) | Dec 22, 2009

Yes I do. I am at home much of the time by myself, so I take precautions. We have a dog inside too, which I feel is a deterrent. With the style of home we have, I am able to look down onto the front porch from upstairs where our living room is. If I don’t know who it is, I will raise the window and speak to the person below. It is always a good idea to be cautious.
dJackie Blued | Dec 22, 2009

no way. i always use the peephole. the world is getting too crazy to trust anyone and, it’s a crying shame.
cutsup | Dec 22, 2009

never have never will thanks
tinkerbell | Dec 22, 2009

Nope.
I even require police to place their ID on the window & call 9-1-1 to verify the dispatch.
We’ve had a lot of fake police crimes in my region.
If I don’t know the person, I stand to the side of the door & yell through it.
We also get a lot of door-to-door solicitors. Since these fly by night companies will hire anyone, I don’t open the door. I just ask, "Who is it?" When they tell me a stranger name I say, "I’m sorry. I don’t know you and I don’t open my door to strangers."
E-ma | Dec 22, 2009

I never have. I also have dogs…and a gun.
NanaT | Dec 22, 2009

Nope, my door is half window, I peek around the corner to see who it is without them seeing me. Usually I can see who is coming in the driveway before they actually get here.
Sweet Cupcake | Dec 22, 2009

Used to. Now in the last several years home invasions happen often in this city. I keep my doors locked 24/7 and don’t unlock them until I know who’s out there
Classy Granny | Dec 22, 2009

I always peek through the curtain over my door…but one time I approached it and looked through the curtain and it was my dad, who was locked out, and he was pretty ticked. I said, "Just making sure you weren’t a psycho killer."
Girl That Throws Bananas. | Dec 22, 2009

No. I never have & never will. If I don’t like what I see I won’t even ask who it is. I’ll sit on the sofa & ignore them until they go away. The gate & the door clearly state "No peddlers or agents-No Solicitors of any kind". Next to the door is also a large Neighborhood Watch sign that says, "No Trespassing" – "If I don’t call the Police, my neighbor will!"
Dee W. | Dec 22, 2009

NEVER! Because it could be my abusive and scary ex-husband strung out on oxycontin and cialis. I blame his doctor here in Pasco County FL [Dr. Castro] almost as much as I blame him. WHEN will the medical association address this? After they have drained every profit? Well, I am just a nice little old lady who huddles in a trailer [mobile home?] a former rental property owned by me and my husband while he has one crack whore after another in our beautiful 5 bedroom home in central Florida. He’s an old man but won’t admit it = I am a just nice old woman very scared and confused in wonderland. Oh, and by the way, more specifically to your question, he always demands money after simply knocking at the door. His crack whore needs a fix.
mikskali | Dec 22, 2009

I never do, however my wife does.
CT53 | Dec 22, 2009

Yes.

They can’t get in anyway, we have wrought iron, glass doors, deadbolt security door.
L | Dec 23, 2009

No, we have glass in our door and can see the person who is knocking or ringing the bell. Poppy
Poppy | Dec 23, 2009

We live in an apartment complex and they have to be ":buzzed " in, We all got a notice saying some one is letting others in the building, and causing problems for other tenants, So when I get a knock on the door someone has let them in the building and I check the peep hole first
Jan | Dec 23, 2009

Sure do with the security screen locked and my big German Shepherd mix standing right beside me.
Laurie | Dec 23, 2009

Yes, I do. I live in a tiny Italian town (4200 people) and to get to my front door you must pass through one of 3 gates, and be vetted my neighbors. So, by the time they get to me they are considered to be pretty safe. Strangers are usually delivery people.
Sneakers | Dec 23, 2009

Yes, I open the solid wooden door. The security, one-way-view screen door is always locked.
MishMash | Dec 23, 2009

People really have guts and no morals to temper them now days. I open my door right away. Never had a problem. If some punk shows me a knife I’ll show him what I know about them. If that happened to my Baby it would scare me to death.
We keep talking about going to America but it just never happens and now she is making a plan. I have to question if I really want to go back and stay. I see bad news in the near future.
This is even more the time to become familiar with some old names like Smith and Wesson. Rugar or Colt. I like all Rugars and they have cheap automatics that are heavy and well made for the money. If you don’t know how to use it . Learn.
jd | Dec 23, 2009

Never.I keep the foyer door in our apartment building locked at all time.
In Atlanta;the crime rate is very high and 911 response time is about 10 minutes.Scary.
I only have a high voltage stun gun;but when I find a job;I would like to get a Glock.
john | Dec 23, 2009

Certainly not. I have two dogs that both bark when someone comes to the door. They are enough to scare off anyone.
corgigirl | Dec 23, 2009

nope
OIAM me | Dec 23, 2009

I have a window on the side of the door, plus a sensor light that goes on when someone comes within 30 feet, so I’m pretty much "notified" when someone comes to the door.
And if he ain’t bringing a pizza, then I have a 36" Louisville Slugger, "Friend", standing in the hallway closet, next to the door.
(I don’t have to feed it, or clean up after it, and it’s pretty safe around the kids)
And if that’s not enough of a "persuader", I can always reach WAY UP on the top shelf of the closet, and bring out "snooky", the "Hog Nose Boy". (A .38, chambered for a .410 shotgun shell)
'ol Geezer | Dec 23, 2009

I have an alarm in my driveway with a sensor that lets me know if anyone walks or drives in. If anyone I don’t know knocks on my door I keep my gun out of site in my hand by my side. This may sound paranoid but I have been broken in to once and caught a man trying to do it another time. The sign on my door says "Nothing in here worth dying for".
old fart | Dec 23, 2009

No I don’t. And if they have a clipboard, I never bother. I can look out several windows without being seen. I size em up. If I don’t like the way they look, I just don’t answer. Sorry it has to be this way. I am even nervous when service men have to come to the house.
Daisymae | Dec 23, 2009

Yes, not much in the way of crime where I live. I don’t even lock my doors at night.
jonds | Dec 23, 2009

Yes, I open my door for strangers. Most of the time it’s a person doing church visitation, the current lawn guy or a school child selling something. Have had a few surprises. Twice I have had FBI agents come to my door and ask questions about a neighbor. They were doing background checks because of employment applications. Of course the men flipped open an impressive gold badge in a leather cover but I had no way of knowing if it was genuine or not. I cautiously answered questions while standing outside with them. Later, the neighbors confirmed it was all legitimate. Interesting visits. I’m sure I should be more cautious. Blame it on my small town mentality.
Miz D | Dec 23, 2009

Our front door has a window in it so we can see who is there. Most of the time we even keep the storm door locked too,for double protection.
Dave Tired Old Man | Dec 23, 2009

No! in England we are warned of the dangers, by most of the authorities, thank goodness???.
Thomas | Dec 23, 2009

Never, and even go to the door with mace in my pocket or hand.
