Is it weird that I'm not obsessed with marriage?
I’m sorry if I’m mistaken and anyone now sees this twice, but I tried posting this a bit ago and I didn’t see it appear on the page (which seems to happen to me a lot, so I figured I’d re-post). Thank you.

Many of my friends are obsessed with having boyfriends and with getting married (we’re teenagers). They worry that it (marriage) won’t happen for them and they hope for specific guys to ask them out. I always listen, and offer advice when they ask for it, but I’m not concerned about dating or anything. I never thought anything of this until it seemed to come up all the time.

These past few years I’ve felt like all of the things I’ve repressed and all of the more current things that upset me have really caught up with me and I think it’s when I really turned to my eating disorder and self-injury that I just stopped even noticing guys beyond them being my friends. Everyone thinks I’m so ecstatically happy all the time (thankfully), so I suppose being so different on the inside from the outside messed with my mind a bit as well. It’s been years since I began engaging in those things, but I still don’t care about dating. Whenever I get asked out I feel ill (being complimented and stuff like that by anyone is so awkward, and it’s all the worse when done by a guy who just wants you to be his girlfriend). Also, I guess I look around at my family and I see so many failed marriages (but between people who are still married), and I hear my mom talking about how badly she wanted kids and how worried she was that she’d be too old (they did get married quite a bit older) and it just sounds like desperation and not love.

I feel like something’s wrong with me. It’s just that if I never get married I won’t care, because unless I meet someone I truly love then what would be the point (what I mean is, why get married out of desperation and spend a lifetime resenting your husband)?

I’m very optimistic about the love lives of others, by the way, so this isn’t supposed to sound cynical. I just wonder, is it weird to have no inclination to date (I’m not scared of winding-up like my family, I just genuinely haven’t met someone who asks me out and doesn’t make me feel like I’m lower than scum and super guilty while doing so- this is an issue with myself and NOT the guys, but I figure one day I’ll either meet someone I say yes to or I’ll never say yes and live my life out just fine as well)?

I was like you and never once day dreamed about my wedding day in my life. I am now due to get married in the near future to my wonderful boyfriend of 13 years. The wedding will be very small and private and unlike most of my friends I will not go into thousands of pounds of debt over it.

I do not think anything is wrong with you at all. You will meet the right person one day and if you want you can get married then. I do think that women who obsess over marriage are more likely to get married younger but also more likely to marry the wrong guy if the wedding day is more important than the marriage. You are still very young and I wouldn’t worry if I were you.

It doesn’t matter at all. In our society, marriage has become less and less favourable anyway. I personally do not like the idea of marriage, since I am an introvert. I prefer to do things myself, and my own way and do not like the thought of living with somebody else. You for different reasons do not want to get tied down with a partner – it may be worth assessing your own personality and looking at why you do not want marriage, it will give greater self awareness.

However, I think that if you want children, then marriage is the only way to go. A lot of problems today are caused by family breakdown and marriage is required as a strong building block for bringing up children.

Okay so, I’m not expert on giving psychological advice (though I do intend on obtaining a degree in some form psychology), but I think the main issue here is your self-perception of yourself. Everyone–no matter who the heck you are–has insecurities and doubts. That’s life, its just how you deal with those issues. To me it sounds like you have a solid idea on where you stand on relationships and love yada yada, but you need to be more confident in those beliefs. Stand strong and embrace it. What does concern me however is this tendency of yours regarding the eating disorder and inflicting self-pain. That was an issue of the past, so leave it there, don’t let that effect how you live out the course of your life. I’m sorry that you don’t have someone to talk to about this, a good venting session is always good. But if you find yourself going back to those dark days of hurting yourself, please be wise and get professional help…it’s the best thing you could do for yourself. Work on trying to have a better outlook on life. Good luck!!!

I am 19 years old, and a Freshman in College. Currently I work at Acme Markets and I make $10.65/hr, and I make $14.65/hr on Sundays. I work anywhere from 25-35 hrs/week, and I pull in about $300-350/week. I also put 50% of my paycheck each week into a 401k. Bed bug extermination – what else can I do?
I have had bed bugs for 8 months now brought in by my last roommate who came in June and left in November. The short version is, whether he knew he had the bugs or not, he was being bitten long before I was but never said anything, so when they spread to my room there were already a large amount of them in the house. I got bit, but since it was July I thought the few scattered bites I initially got were from mosquitoes. However after a few weeks there were more and more bites, and we just didn’t have THAT many mosquitoes…I started researching and by August I was sure it was bed bugs, and tried a few home tests I found online to see if this was the case, though none of these confirmed anything. It wasn’t until the end of the month though that I finally saw a few and told the landlord immediately. The exterminator has been spraying monthly ever since, and my roommate was the only one not keeping up on his end of the cleaning and eliminating clutter, so now that he’s gone I at least know that is being done, but I’m sure it hindered things at the beginning. Now, however it seems to be so close to the end of the infestation, and I went over a month w/o getting a bite in my bedroom. But in my living room I get bit from time to time. The longest period of time out in that room w/o a bite was 11 days. I don’t know what else to do, every time they spray now that there are so few bugs left, it seems like the problem is gone and then it shows back up again. I vaccuum all the rooms and go in and around the couches and bed and even as best I can down into the baseboards and still this keeps coming back. Since my roommate left I can’t even have someone else come look at the place because who would want to move into an apartment that has bed bugs? And if someone was okay w/it I really don’t think I’d want them for a roommate either, bad forshadowing. Is there anything else that anyone can suggest I do to finish off this problem once and for all? I just hate being so close to what appears to be the end and not being able to be done w/it.

Is this religious claim "true"?
Ok so, i’m a teenager, read the bible, raised catholic, confirmed, but i’m an atheist. Say what you will blah blah blah this is what i believe, and i stick behind it. My friends and i are pretty sophisticated for our age and constantly discuss politics, religion, and other things. However, some people say i shouldn’t talk about these things because i’m an "aggressive" atheist. but that’s beside the point. anyway, one day me and a friend of mine were talking in gym class about theories and other such nonsense as to the creation of the world and the universe itself. They were for the most part mainstream theories however he had brought something up i had never heard of. I can’t remember the name but apparently a long while back a man came up with mathematical proof that a god exists. Now i still think this is a bullshit claim however i really want to read up on this. I figured asking here would make the most sense. I don’t want to hear religious junk just tell me what you know about this "equation"

edit: If it was Goedel, that’d be kind of ironic, since he disproved omniscience with his incompleteness theorem.

I’ve never heard of such an equation, but I don’t think it’s possible to quantify God with math. They use math to define things that they can already detect, but God isn’t part of our physical universe. He is a spiritual being. How do you measure that? You can’t.

Can I give you some advice that works whether you’re a Christian or an atheist? You catch more flies with honey. Be passionate about your beliefs; just don’t be a jerk about it. It’s ugly and irritating when Christians do that; believe me when I say, it’s just as bad coming from an atheist.

One thing is for sure. You have never been a Christian and had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, since if you have that, you do not leave. Many Catholic friends of mine have asked a lot of questions from me about the Bible…like "What is the difference between New Testament and Old Testament?". That shows me how little they know about the Bible, and they can call themselves Catholics but they are not with Christ.

No one has been coming with the mathematic formula that proofs there is a god. There is only one true God and not "a god". He is real if you believe in Him or not. One thing is for sure: He loves you and He would like to have you but He will send your sophisticated yourself to hell if you do not choose heaven. Pay attention what He says because He is in promise keeping business.

I believe you will learn a lot about God when you study His Word. When you will have Holy Spirit guiding you will learn much more than when you rely on your own sophisticated and intellectual understanding. There is not shortcuts into a spiritual maturity, give it time.

However….

Recently, scientists working at the large scale level (cosmologists), and the tiny scale (sub-atomic physicists) that are really, really far into the math are finding something in the math that looks very much like God. Not proof yet; there is still a lot of work to be done. However, it appears, at both levels, that there is something that is not yet understood, but has the characteristics you would expect of God. Many of these scientists have come to faith through their work.

First Valentines for Husband?
I would like to get something for my husband for Valentines Day. I’m sure he doesn’t expect anything, under our circumstances, our little girl is a great gift…
The problem is, I’m due to have our little girl any day now, we have 3 other children Living in the household, so I stay busy. I do not have time to make a card or fix anything up for him.

I need help this is my future I have been?
supervisor at a hotel, the United States Marine Corps, and Management for a sporting goods retail company. I now work about an hour drive there and back, its retail and I’m a (hardlines) manager. My amp keeps shutting off, and i have had 3 different systems in my car. still the same thing?
i have 2 1200 watt subs and a 1000 watt amp. it hits hard then amp shuts off after i go over 20. the power on the amp dims when the subs hit, whats going on? is it my power wires…i think i just answered my own question lol…i left the same wires in for all three systems..there regular sized cables maybe about a little thicjeker then a pencil.

I would use 8g cable. if that doesnt help buy a capacitor. they store power and when the amp needs a quick boost of power it’s there already stored.

you need to split the feeds into a seris parallel circit and add maybe an extra capaciter. the heat safe is shutting them off. and its not so much the wires either if they were to small they would be very hot. if the amp isnt getting enough current because of atehr devices feeding off the same circit the amp has to work harder to produce the same amount of wattage so it gets hot and kicks off. also ather devices on the same line can cause a sudden voltage change if powerful eough when the bass hits. some amps have a safty for sudden voltage changes like that to protect it from a spike. a loose connection at the amp pr battery/capaciter and cause higher level of ohms to build. ohms law states ohms go up current/amperage goes down. this makes things get hot too. the best thing to do is run a clean seris paralell circit from teh power sirce and branch off of it. and add a seperate fuse at each brance. so if one amp spike it wont back feed into the ather one and fry it. also runing a secondary battery isnt a bad idea either. this will have to go on the seris side of the circit. with revers polarity from the main battery. you should disconnect teh ather devices and try it. maybe you can find teh problem by proscess of elemination.

It could be several things. like something as simple as not having a good ground, to not having enough voltage.

If your wire isn’t burnt, or burning, then it isn’t the problem. and with 1000 watts of power (I’m assuming RMS) you probably wouldn’t want to run anything smaller than 4 gauge.

It could be that you have the amp hooked up to an ohm load too low for it to handle.

can you give me any more specifics about our system, and details?

what subs are you using. what amp are you using. how do you have them hooked up. is it just the amp cutting off or the whole system? etc.
